A Stroll Through Praha...Part I
Any day is a good day for a stroll through Prague, but a Friday that happens to be a holiday means the city empties out, which in turn makes for a perfect day to walk around.
Václavské náměstí (Wenceslas Square)
The owner of the hotel was a rich widow, who had a young yet extremely unattractive and silly daughter. The daughter was already of marrying age, but despite her assets she remained single. She never married and for that she was known in Prague by the nickname "Golden Goose" (Zlata Husa).
In 1964 both hotels were joined together and their modern history begins...

Ovocný trh - an outdoor market selling everything from fruits & vegetables to souvenirs, artwork, and leather goods. I discovered my new favorite handbag maker. Made by hand, no less. Um, yes, of course I made a purchase, and I'm contemplating deciding on another one.

Why oh why can't I get these in the States?
Seriously, I love this water and easily go through two a day. I actually will crave this water. I mean, who does that?
You're probably wondering what's so special about it. Well, it's non-carbonated spring water and extracts from herbs, "with the optimum mineralization of 313 milligrams of minerals in one litre" (yeah ok, that's nice and all), but it's the taste that keeps me coming back for more.
This particular one contains extracts from dandelion...

Ever wonder what this monument, situated in the center of Old Town Square, signifies?

It depicts the persecution of Czech nationalists and their reemergence 200 years later.
Today marks the 597th anniversary of the death of Jan Hus, a 15th century priest, reformer, and religious thinker who was burned at the stake by civil authorities as a heretic. July 6th is a National holiday in the Czech Republic, with religious services held throughout the country commemorating Jan Hus's legacy. Hus was a key predecessor to the Protestant movement of the 16th century, and his teachings had a strong influence on the states of Europe, most immediately in the approval for the existence reforming Bohemian religious domination, and, more than a century later, on Martin Luther himself.
